Some weddings unfold exactly as planned. Others, like this one, become unforgettable precisely because of what no one expected.

Lior and Rotem had been dreaming of eloping in Iceland for years. Twice their plans were cancelled, thanks to a certain global pandemic, but they finally made it happen. Two flights, a ferry, and a whole lot of love later, they arrived in the tiny volcanic archipelago just south of the Icelandic mainland — Vestmannaeyjar.

We were meant to have a quick indoor ceremony at the local office — the only official option that day. But the sun showed up. The celebrant smiled, looked around, and said, “Why don’t we take this outside?”

So, we did. With a backdrop of wild cliffs and golden grass, surrounded by seabirds and silence, they exchanged vows that had been waiting far too long to be spoken. It wasn’t the plan. It was better.

We explored the island after that and then made our way toward Kvernufoss and the black sand beach. By the time we reached the beach, it was already dark. I was quietly panicking — low light, no tripod, no time. And yet… no tourists, no distractions. Just the two of them, silhouetted against the sea. The photos? Honestly, some of my favorites. Sometimes, magic shows up when you stop trying to force it.

This day reminded me that the most powerful photos aren’t always the ones that go according to plan. They’re the ones where the wind messes up your hair, your shoes get soaked, and you say “yes” anyway.
